When it comes to great moments in the stands, it’s so easy to think back to early May where a Blue Jays fan in Toronto caught a home run from Aaron Judge and immediately gave the baseball to a young Yankees fan. It was a simple act of kindness that captured the attention of the entire baseball world.
On Tuesday night, though, we saw the other side of that spectrum take place at Yankee Stadium. And honestly, it was tough to watch.
The broadcast from the Yankees’ win over the Orioles showed Judge retrieving a foul ball down the right-field line and looking to give a young fan a memorable experience with a souvenir. Judge was placing the baseball directly in the young fan’s glove when an adult Yankees fan swooped in and took the baseball to the complete shock of everyone around them.

I mean, who does that?
While young fans aren’t necessarily entitled to baseballs that are thrown into the stands, that baseball was clearly going to the kid. It was being placed in the glove, so it really made no sense for an actual adult to jump in and grab the ball away. And on top of that, he acted thrilled as if he had just accomplished something.
Not cool at all, man.
Let’s hope the Yankees find a way to connect with the young fan and make things right because he really didn’t deserve what happened there.
MLB Twitter wasn’t thrilled with the older fan’s antics either.
This was how Twitter reacted
When I was about 16-17 @JasonDufner was last group on 18 at Augusta National on a Friday and he tossed me his yardage book. As it was reaching my finger tips a full grown adult slapped it away and ran off with it. Still hurts in my soul. https://t.co/fqwwpRidTQ

Some of you “grown adults” acting a fool like this (and in some cases much worse lol). Legitimately shameful. https://t.co/2xAUgh9e6K

A grown man did this to me at a bills game during a tee shirt cannon in the late 90s when I was probably 11 years old or so. Had it in my hands and he absolutely ripped it away from me. https://t.co/7TwCsqyEXI

Agreed. When I was little, I had a foul ball in my hand & the grown man sitting in front of me turned around & ripped it from my grasp, then celebrated like he caught it. I was so upset. Btw, the dude gave the ball to his 2 year-old daughter & she threw it 3 rows down. https://t.co/u5XxkSNANr

He’ll be meeting Aaron Judge tomorrow. That’s one of the good things about the internet https://t.co/vfzUG7Mj0B

He was booed for 20 min before they told him to leave. He kept the ball by the way and another goated fan in a pink shirt gave up his ball to the kid https://t.co/jGjpQhKPPY

Aside from catching a historic home run, there’s really no reason for an adult to be excited about getting a baseball. Don’t be that fan.
